Student Impact
Effective March 6, 2006, Clayton State University will migrate from
identifying students by their Social Security numbers to using a
unique identifier called the LakerID# to help protect individual
privacy and confidentiality. This change in business practices is
the result of a new University policy,
Social Security Number Usage and Protection Policy
(coming soon).
Current Students
LakerID# Usage
and Look-up
You will
automatically be assigned a LakerID# as part of the conversion
process. Your LakerID# will become your new login to
The DUCK. It will also be used to access most
campus services. To assist with the transition to the
LakerID#, a web application will be available so you can look up
your LakerID# until you have to memorize it. Students will
receive an email immediately following the conversion which will
contain a link to the LakerID# look-up site. In addition,
the link will be available on the University's homepage, the
Current Students webpage, The DUCK, and the Alumni Services
website.
Increased PIN
Security for logging into The DUCK
-
For added security, the requirements for the
secret PIN will be strengthened. New restrictions will
exclude PINs that consist of all consecutive numbers
(ex: 123456 or 987654), PINs which consist of all the same
number (ex: 111111), and PINs that contain only alternating
numbers (ex: 151515 or 808080).

If your PIN does not meet the new
requirements, you will be allowed to use your old PIN once
for the initial login following conversion, but you will be
required to immediately change your PIN to one that meets
the new requirements

If your PIN meets the new requirements, you
will not be prompted to change it, although you may choose
to do so

For your protection, please DO NOT
write your LakerID# and secret PIN in the same location

The HUB can answer
questions by phone about changing your PIN, but they are
restricted from changing your PIN for you! The HUB can
assist with changing a PIN when a student visits The HUB and
presents photo ID.
Incoming & Transfer Students
New and transfer
students will automatically be assigned a LakerID# through the
application and admissions process at Clayton State University.
During your participation in the New Student Orientation process,
you will receive your LakerID#. In addition, your LakerID# will be
printed on your LakerCard which you will also receive during New
Student Orientation.
All
Students
Instead of using your Social Security number you will need your
LakerID# when applying for or requesting services, such as:

LakerCard Center
- obtaining an ID card

Registrar's
Office - register for classes; requesting a transcript

Bursar’s Office-
make tuition and fee payments; check status of financial aid
disbursements and student loan data

The HUB – obtain
technical support for your laptop computer

Center for
Academic Assistance – tutoring assistance

Financial Aid –
requesting assistance with Financial Aid matters
