Morrow, Ga., Aug. 16, 2006 – Under the direction of Director of Alumni Relations Gid Rowell, the Clayton State Alumni Association is a dynamic, growing organization, now numbering approximately 13,000 individuals, almost 11,000 from Georgia.

Over the past three years, the Alumni Association has not only added over 1,000 members, but the demographics of the membership have changed. In 2003, the last time Clayton State took stock of its alumni, Clayton County, as had been the case throughout the University’s history, had more former Lakers than any other county in the State of Georgia. Imagine then the surprise when Rowell’s latest tally showed that, for the first time, Henry County was the home of more Clayton State alums. The count was close, 2420 alumni in Henry County as opposed to 2416 alumni in Clayton County, but there are now more members of the Alumni Association in Henry County than in any other political division.

That’s not the only change in the county ranking since 2003. Fulton and Cobb counties also showed growth among the alumni, with Fulton moving from fifth to fourth place and Cobb from ninth to eighth place. In fact, Fulton picked up more Clayton State alumni in total (384… a 40 percent increase) in the past three years than any other county in the state, save Henry. Significant percentage gains were also made in Spalding and Newton counties, both of which have 66 more alumni than in 2003, representing a 46 percent increase for Newton and a 34 percent increase for Spalding.

In all, 13 counties among the 97 in Georgia represented by Clayton State alumni now have 100 or more alumni. The 2003 list of the top 13 counties is as follows…

Clayton --2210
Henry -- 1995
Fayette --1077
DeKalb -- 588
Fulton -- 572
Coweta -- 565
Gwinnett -- 294
Rockdale --259
Cobb -- 244
Spalding-- 192
Newton -- 148
Douglas --116
Butts --99

In 2006, Clayton, Henry, Fayette, DeKalb, Fulton and Coweta counties continue to represent the “big six” as far as total alumni population. The 2006 list of the top 13 (increase from 2003 in parentheses)…
