Morrow,
Ga., September 5, 2006 –
The Clayton State University Alumni Association Board of
Directors has announced the appointment of Sylvia Shy to
its Board of Directors.
The
appointment will begin this month, and she becomes the
Association’s 12th member to the board. Shy,
named the 2004 Most Outstanding Business Student,
graduated in the fall of 2004 with a Bachelor of
Business in Business Management from Clayton State.
Shy, from
Covington, GA, is employed at Acuity Brands Lighting
(formerly Lithonia Lighting) in nearby Conyers. She has
served as one of the company’s Organization Development
Project Managers since 2003. Shy has worked for the
lighting company for 25 years, beginning in an
entry-level position, before moving up to her current
management position.
"I am
extremely excited to have been named to the Clayton
Alumni Association Board of Directors, said Shy. “Our
university is really on the move and to have the
opportunity to serve--and to give back--in this capacity
is an honor.”
In
addition to being named the 2004 CSU Most Outstanding
Business Student, Shy was also the 2003 Clayton State
Wall Street Outstanding Business Student. She was a
member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, named to the
Dean’s List multiple times and a HOPE Scholarship
recipient.
Shy is
also active in her community as a United Way Ambassador,
in Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross and the
Rockdale County Adult Literacy Campaign.
