Leadership Development

LEAD the Way is a series of leadership seminars in which students have the opportunity to interact with leaders in the community to explore the leadership and skill sets needed to be an effective leader.  The program is coordinated with our Service Learning Series so that students expand their knowledge of civic engagement as more than simple volunteerism, but also connect this involvement with local companies and businesses who through their work, affect change by addressing social inequalities and committing to community activism within their own organization.  By attending the LEAD the Way seminars, students will channel their thought processes about the relationship between leadership, philanthropy, and civic engagement, and connect how the three are intimately intertwined and sometimes interchangeable.

Each presenter of the LEAD the Way Seminars will address the following topics:

  1. A description of the presenter's current leadership position;

  2. Specific leadership qualities the presenter had to learn, acquire and enhance to effectively perform his/her job function; and

  3. Why his/her position and organization are important to the community/how these leadership skills can apply to civic engagement and community activism opportunities.
