A FRIENDS HOUSE

  • All children need a home to provide a sense of security and unconditional love. Unfortunately, for many children, “home” is a place devoid of these necessities. A Friend’s House operates as a home for children in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services or the Juvenile Court System.

Residents stay for an unspecified length of time while a best course of action is determined based on a child’s assessment needs. Individuals or small groups can work directly with the children or assist the staff behind the scenes. Volunteers must be 21 years of age to work directly with children, required to complete an orientation class, and must pass a police background check.

BREAKTHROUGH ATLANTA

  • Breakthrough Atlanta is a six-year, skills-based, enrichment, college preparatory program with a dual mission: 1) to provide a hands-on teaching experience for college students who aspire to be educators. 2) To provide a pathway to post-secondary education for underserved Atlanta public school students.

Breakthrough Atlanta relies on a variety of interns, volunteers, and other support personnel to operate the program. Volunteers are expected to dedicate two Saturdays out of each month during the school year program. Paid summer employment that entails a monthly stipend, practicum hours, and other benefits is available upon application.
