Clayton State University Center for Academic Success

Refer a Student to the Center for Academic Success

2000 Level Courses or Below (Including Learning Support)

The Clayton Academic Referral Effort (CARE) is an online early warning referral program designed to enhance academic success and retention by connecting potentially at-risk students with support services on the Clayton State University campus. Faculty teaching courses at the 2000 level or below (including Learning Support) are encouraged to identify students who are experiencing academic difficulty at any time during the semester. Referrals are made through class rolls in the DUCK.

Once referrals are made, an automatic email is generated to students that will be followed up with a personal contact by Erica Jackson, our Center for Academic Success Advisor. Erica will also contact you via email to let you know she has received the referral, and she will keep you informed as to the referral status once she meets with the student. Additional details can be found on the CARE Flowchart.

3000 Level Courses and Higher

Faculty can refer students enrolled in 3000 level courses and higher to the CAS by completing a referral form online or by printing a copy and sending the student to the CAS with the form in hand.

If you wish to submit your referral electronically, please click on the Electronic Referral Form link. Once you complete the form, submit it, and we will receive a copy of it in our general mailbox. We then will print the referral form, and it will be waiting for your student at our reception desk.

If you wish to print a referral form, please click on the Printable Referral Form link. Once you complete the form, print it, and send it with your student to the CAS. Your student will hand the form to the receptionist when he or she arrives.

What happens when my student gets to the CAS?

Your student will see the receptionist when he or she arrives in the CAS and will then be directed to the services he or she needs. Depending on your request, the receptionist will either guide your student to the resources he or she needs to use or will help your student make an appointment for tutoring services or sign up for a workshop.

How do I know my student came to the CAS?

Once your student finishes his or her session at the CAS, he or she will fill out a Visit Summary describing what he or she accomplished during the visit. The CAS keeps one copy of this form, and the other copy is sent to you via interoffice mail.

If you have any other questions, please contact Kathy Garrison Assistant Director for the CAS.
