Assistive Technology
Assistive technology is computer-based software or hardware solutions that enable students with disabilities to access information and compensation for the impact of their disabilities. The DRC office has a limited number of programs that can be used by students in our computer lab. In addition, to make a student's laptop accessible for a course or program, the DRC office may loan software to students on a case-by-case basis. Some examples of the programs the DRC office has are listed below:
- JAWS - Screen reading
- Zoom Text - Screen reading and text enlargement
- Kurzweil 3000 - Screen reading, optical character recognition, study tools
- Inspiration - Mind mapping, learning strategies
- Text Aloud - Screen reading
- Open Book - scanning and optical character recognition
The DRC office also offers textbooks and readings in alternate format, accessible furniture, and access to interpreter services.
