Scholarships
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of scholarships are available?
Clayton State University offers outstanding students a wide
variety of competitive academic scholarships. Most are based on
academic merit, and some are also based on financial need.
There are also institutional scholarships that are awarded by
specific departments at Clayton State University.
Private
scholarships can be applied for through the organization
offering the scholarships.
How do I qualify for academic scholarships?
Most scholarships require a 3.0 or above institutional grade
point average. Other criteria may include leadership skills,
intended major, financial need, and extracurricular
involvement. You must complete the Clayton State University
Scholarship Application and submit two recommendation forms. To
be considered for need-based scholarships, you must complete the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA)
by the published scholarship deadline which is normally in late
April. You can complete the
FAFSA online after January 1 for
the upcoming academic year. Clayton State University’s school
code is 008976.
Not
all eligible and qualified students will receive a scholarship
since funds are limited.
Are international students eligible for Clayton State University
scholarships?
International students are eligible unless the guidelines
indicate that applicants must be U.S. citizens.
Am I eligible for a Clayton State University scholarship if I am
pursuing a second bachelor’s degree?
You may apply, but priority is given to students who are seeking
their first undergraduate degree.
Do I complete a separate application for every scholarship?
By submitting a complete and accurate application packet, you
will be considered for all Academic Scholarships for
which you qualify. If you are interested in
Institutional
Scholarships, you must contact the office or person listed
for application information. For Private Scholarships
you must contact the organization offering the scholarship.
Who should complete the Recommendation Forms?
Forms should be completed by a teacher, counselor, faculty
member, faculty advisor, or someone who can attest to your
character and academic performance. Recommendations should
not be from family members. Please submit only two
recommendation forms. Any additional recommendation forms
submitted will not be reviewed or retained.
Do I have to be accepted for admission before I apply for a
scholarship?
You do not have to be officially accepted to apply for a
scholarship, but the Office of Admissions must receive your
admissions application and official copies of high school and/or
college transcript(s) by the published scholarship application
deadline. You may also be required to submit SAT or ACT
scores.
What is the scholarship deadline?
The deadline is published on our website by the end of each
year for the upcoming academic year and is normally in late
April. For example, the deadline for the 2010-2011 academic
year (Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 will be posted by the end of
2009). Please remember that you are responsible for ensuring
that all required items are received by this deadline.
Applications or other documents received after the deadline will
not be considered.
It
is recommended that you submit your scholarship application and
two recommendation forms at the same time to the Financial Aid
Office.
What is the amount of the scholarships?
Award amounts for Academic Scholarships range from $200
to full in-state tuition and fees. The actual awarding of each
scholarship, and the award amount, is contingent upon
contributions made to scholarship funds and/or the income earned
from scholarship endowments.
Can I receive a scholarship if I receive other types of
financial aid?
Scholarship awards are in addition to Pell and/or HOPE awards.
It is possible that your loan or federal work-study eligibility
will be reduced if you receive a scholarship.
When will I know if I received a scholarship?
You will be notified by late July of the Scholarship Committee’s
decision regarding your application. Not all eligible and
qualified students will receive a scholarship since funds are
limited.
Where do I turn in my application and two recommendation forms?
The scholarship application and recommendation forms will be
available from our website by the end of December 2009. Your
application and recommendation forms should be submitted to the
Financial Aid Office, Attention: Scholarship Coordinator,
Clayton State University, Student Center #102, 2000 Clayton
State Boulevard, Morrow, GA 30260. It is recommended that
