Philosophy
It is the purpose of the Department of Recreation & Wellness to provide the students, faculty and staff an opportunity to become, and remain active in a wide variety of activities.
The program offers ample opportunity for individual, team, and coed activities. These programs have been chosen to meet the needs and desires of the student body. It is a departmental objective to aid in the development of each participant's social interaction, exercise and need for competition, and to develop carry-over attitudes and skills for life-long personal fitness.
Our goal is participation. Take advantage of all that is offered. We welcome and rely on any suggestions you may have.
The following rules and procedures are intended to promote fair and orderly competition among the participants in the intramural program. These general rules are basic
guidelines for intramural activities and will be supplemented by additional regulations specific to each activity. Where additional rules are needed they can be found in the
procedures for each activity. Any of these rules are subject to change at the discretion of the Intramural Staff. The
Staff reserves the right to issue any
new rules or regulations that are deemed essential to the success of the total program.
Ignorance is not accepted as a reason for someone not adhering to the rules and regulations. This handbook and all other rules are available for anyone at anytime.
Eligibility
- Currently enrolled Clayton State students and currently employed faculty or staff are eligible to participate in intramural events. A spouse of a currently employed faculty or staff member may also participate. All participants must have a valid Laker ID# and present their card at the intramural activity in which they participate.
- Teams must pay the required forfeit fee in order to participate in an intramural activity. Teams that forfeit once during the season will be eligible to have 1/2 of their forfeit fee returned. A team that forfeits twice will not be eligible to have their fee returned. All fees refunds will be coordinated through the Bursar's Office. You will be notified regarding the status of your refund within two weeks of the season's final playoff game.
- Rosters for each activity must be submitted and forfeit fee (s) paid by 12 pm the day following the captains meeting for that activity.
- Participants who have been listed on a varsity roster at any NCAA institution will not be allowed to participate in the intramural sport (or like sport, ex. basketball / soccer) in which they were a varsity participant for a period of one (1) full academic year from their last participation in that sport. For example, a basketball player who last appeared on a varsity roster in Spring 2006 will not be eligible to participate in Intramural basketball until Fall 2007.
- Teams must have the required number or participants for a particular sport in order to avoid a forfeit. Games will not be played if a team does not have the minimum number of participants as listed in the Intramural rules for that sport.
- Any team which has a team member ejected from a game for unsportsmanlike conduct will be subject to suspension from intramural sports, league play, playoffs, and other Department of Recreation & Wellness activities; further disciplinary action may result from the Office of Student Conduct. Any player who is ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct will AUTOMATICALLY be suspended from that game and at least the proceeding game.
- A participant who arrives for an activity or participates in an activity under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be removed from the contest and may be subject to further disciplinary action for violating the University's Student Code of Conduct.
- All team captains (or game captains) are responsible for informing their team members of Intramural rules, policies and procedures. Captains are also responsible for the conduct of their teammates, as well as the behavior of their fans.
- The game schedule information will not be given over the phone. Game schedules will be posted on-line and / or on the Intramural board located in the SAC Fitness Center.
- Players may be added to the roster through the final regular season game. Rosters can not be adjusted after the final regular season game.
- No games will be called for inclement weather before 3:30 pm on game day. If games are rescheduled due to inclement weather, the make-up dates will be posted on the Intramural board.
- If the University is closed due to inclement weather, all intramural games will be cancelled and rescheduled.
Signing up for Activities/Fees
- Each event, its eligibility rules and deadline for entry will be advertised on the intramural bulletin boards, emails, intramural website and other methods.
- Each activity will require a different registration form to be filled out with all names and Laker ID numbers. The roster forms will be readily available to students on this web site and within the Department of Recreation & Wellness.
- All team rosters must be turned in to the Department of Recreation & Wellness, located in the SAC, by the posted entry deadline. The roster must be filled out completely with all names and Laker ID numbers or it will not be accepted.
- A player may play for only one team in any given activity. If a player is found playing for more than one team that player will be considered to be a member of the team on which they played FIRST. Exception: A player may play for his or her team and an additional coed team in the same activity if it is offered.
- If a team is dropped from a league because of forfeits or improper conduct, an effort will be made to place individuals on another team at the discretion of the Intramural Staff.
- Anyone playing under a fictitious name shall be banned from intramural competition. Further, if it is proven that the team captain knowingly allowed such an action, that captain may also be banned. The team using the illegal player will forfeit their remaining games.
- All intramural participants are responsible for any and all injuries incurred during their participation in the Department of Recreation & Wellness activities, including Intramural sports. It is strongly advised that all participants carry accident and medical insurance coverage. All medical bills are the responsibility of the participant.

responsible for communicating the schedule and rules received at this meeting to team members.
**Any team not having a representative present at the MANDATORY captains meeting will be subject to penalties, including possible removal from the tournament if there is a waiting list for teams to get into the tournament. Further, if allowed to remain in the tournament, it may be necessary to subsequently forfeit the first contest; if this occurs, the captain will be responsible for any additional forfeit fee on top of the original forfeit fee previously imposed for forfeiting the first contest.
- Players may be added to team rosters anytime during the activity according to the rules regarding eligibility and #5 in this section. Only players who have participated in one regular season game are eligible for playoffs.
