Continuing Education

As Larry Oberg stated in the article "Support Staff in an Age of Change: The Challenges of Tomorrow" which appeared in the January/February, 1999 issue of Library Mosaics:

"Although the key to developing effective continuing education programs is, in fact, top-down support, it is critical that support staff make their own needs known.   They must take the initiative to seek out appropriate continuing education opportunities."

        Georgia OPLS Workshops

Workshops are held on a variety of topics and in a variety of locations.   All of the one-day workshops are free to all GOLD member libraries and should offer something for just about everyone.

        Virtual University

Virtual University offers inexpensive (less than $20 per course) training, not only in HTML and such web matters but also in   Internet basics like searching and email, delivered over the Internet. If you prefer to have instruction delivered over 6-10 weeks and the opportunity to interact with other students (via e-mail or chat sessions), this could work for you. You may also choose to receive CE credits for course work offered through VU.

  SOLINET Continuing Education and Training

SOLINET is the largest regional library network in the United States, and they emphasize the power of strategic collaboration, the value of a cooperative infrastructure, and the wise stewardship of information resources. SOLINET offers a number of wonderful resources including training and continuing education opportunities. You can find out about workshops and training opportunities through the SOLINET Continuing Education and Training Web site.
