The Dictionary of Art / REF N31.D5 1996
Signed, in-depth essays and criticisms on art and artists, listed in alphabetical order.  Excellent starting point for research in art.

Encyclopedia of World Art / REF N31.E4833
Architecture, sculpture, painting and any man-made objects of decoration are covered for all countries and periods, but emphasis is on Western art.  Volume 15 is an index and volume 16 is a supplement that provides coverage of 20th century art, which is not included in the previous volumes.

Oxford Companion to Art / REF N33.09
An introduction to art, the articles are basic introductions to artists, periods, techniques, etc.  For those unfamiliar with art, this is an excellent place to start.

More updated than the Oxford Companion to Art, with 300 new entries, but without the long entries on individual countries, architecture, and Oriental art.
