Circulation Desk Services

Check Out and Return Materials

When you are ready to take books and other materials out of the library, stop by the Circulation Desk to check them out. You must present your LakerCard to check out materials. When you are finished with an item, return it to the Circulation Desk in order to avoid overdue fines and holds on your records.

Renew Materials

If you are not finished with the material but your book is due back to the library, you can renew the materials you borrowed. You can renew books twice and AV once. You can renew online through your library account, over the phone by calling the Circulation Desk or bring your books back to the Circulation Desk. If you have exceeded your renewals, you must bring the book back to the library to check it out again or you will start to accrue a fine.

GIL Express and Interlibrary Loan

If we don't have a book you need, you can request books from other institutions worldwide. We have 2 ways to do this: 1) GIL Express which borrows from other Georgia libraries or 2) Interlibrary Loan for material from other libraries worldwide. These services are free to Clayton State students, faculty, and staff.

Course Reserves

If your professor put something in the library for all their classes to use, it will be behind the Circulation Desk in the Reserves collection. These books have limited checkout so be sure to know when it's due back since the daily fine is typically $10.

Collect Overdue Fines and Remove Holds

Library fines can only be paid at the Circulation Desk. If you have a Banner hold from your fine, let the Circulation staff know so it can be removed.

Provide Assistance in Locating Books

If you don't know how to locate material on the shelf, ask at the Circulation Desk for assistance. You can also view this short video to learn how to read Library of Congress call numbers.
