We propose to change the course description for PARA 1101 as follows:

PARA 1101 Introduction to Law and Ethics (3-0-3)
This course provides an overview of the legal system, the role of paralegals within the system, and the use of technology in a law office procedures. or other legal setting. In addition, Tthe course will focuses on federal and state judicial systems, critical thinking skills commonly used in the analysis of legal fact patterns, communication skills, case analysis, the laws of contracts and torts, and role playing exercises for ethical issues confronted by legal professionalsparalegals.

Rationale for proposed changes: The above revisions more accurately reflect the substantive work being performed by students in this class. Also, a separate course, PARA 1111 Computers in the Law, is now offered in the program to address the use of technology in law offices.

The current course description reads as follows: This course provides an overview of the legal system, the role of paralegals within the system, and the use of technology in a law office or other legal setting. In addition, the course will focus on critical thinking, communication skills, case analysis, and role playing exercises for ethical issues confronted by paralegals.

The proposed revision of the course description reads as follows: This course provides an overview of the legal system, the role of paralegals within the system, and law office procedures.
