The Earth Day & Transportation Fair will have exhibitors for many areas of the environmental. Also Clayton State University Clubs, Organizations and Departments are invited to participate (suggestions recycling,  community service, volunteerism, or energy or environmental savings topics).

Stop by and learn how you can improve our environment, see some alternate fuel vehicles, or maybe win some door prizes or get a t-shirt. Learn how you can become part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

Volunteer Services at Clayton State University.

 

1-87-RIDEFIND. 1-87-RIDEFIND represents a cooperative effort between the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. ARC's TDM Division operates and maintains a confidential, computerized regional ride match database (1-87-RIDEFIND) that matches commuters in the Atlanta region with potential carpool partners and provides vanpool information. The 1-87-RIDEFIND database serves individual commuters as well as employer services organizations, such as Transportation Management Associations (TMAs) and the Clean Air Campaign. 1-87-RIDEFIND will bring a Segway® Human Transporter to demonstrate.

Allan Vigil Ford. Allan Vigil Ford is one of the world’s largest freestanding dealerships has commenced operations on about 30 acres in Morrow, Georgia. Allan Vigil Ford is the largest minority-owned dealership in Georgia employing nearly 300 Georgia residents from 22 counties. As a community partner, Allan Vigil Ford helped to stimulate the state and local economy by exceeding $360 million in revenue over the past three years. Allan Vigil Ford will be exhibiting some Ford low emissions vehicles.

Allied Healthcare Clinics, Inc. (11 am - 2 pm). Allied Healthcare Clinics, Inc. was created by Dr. John N. Thomas, DC. Different services offered in our clinic include Personal & Sports Injury Treatments, Biomechanical & Spinal Exams, Muscle & Pain Management, Foot Exams and Custom Orthotics, Full Body Detoxification Program, Weight Loss Programs, Nutritional Support and Massage Therapy.

American Motorcycle Association. The American Motorcycle Association is a 265,000 member organization with a history of pursuing, protecting, and promoting the interest of motorcycle enthusiasts. The AMA was founded in 1924 and is the premier defender of motorcyclists' rights in the United States. Tom Eddins, School of Technology, will be recycling soft drink tabs to recycle into insulin needles.

American Recycling of Georgia. American Recycling of Georgia is the office paper recycling division of family owned American Recycling with plants in Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Birmingham, Al; and Greenville, SC. ARG takes a professional approach to all we do and have ingrained excellence in customer service as part of our identity. We run only modern and well-maintained collection vehicles, and have installed state-of-the-art sorting and baling equipment, as well as the latest in computer technology in our processing plant. Indeed, our entire culture is built on quality, integrity and treating our relationships with a serving attitude.

Angels Recovery. Angels Recovery & Spirituality is a counseling organization that has been providing counseling services in Clayton County for six years. We specialize in providing culturally sensitive and services in Spanish for the growing Latino community in Clayton County. We also provide counseling services for English speaking clients. Our mission is to provide counseling services that are based on integrity, honesty, respect and spirituality so that our clients can return to live happy, productive and fulfilling lives.

Atlanta Bicycle Campaign. The Atlanta Bicycle Campaign is a member-supported organization working for better on-road bicycling conditions in metro-Atlanta. The ABC believes that truly healthy communities welcome bicyclists and provide a safe riding environment. We promote bicycle transportation, responsible recreational riding, and education for bicyclists and motorists alike.

Auxiliary Services.  Auxiliary Services at Clayton State University provides a variety of retail services to the campus community. The units of Auxiliary Services the University Bookstore, Dining Services, the LakerCard Center, campus vending, and SmartPrint (student networked printing).

Clayton State University Parking/Communications. Parking/Communication responsibilities include: issuing parking permits and registration of vehicles, providing 24/7 emergency and non-emergency services, official Lost and Found for the university, and background checks.

Clayton State University Science Association. We are an organization that gives all fields of science majors a chance to come together and complete environmental based projects. Our organization plans various trips to visit schools of interest among other trips. The Science Association currently collects and recycles ink jet and laser jet cartridges and hopes to start up a program for recycling plastic soon.  Email scienceassociation@yahoo.com to donate any of your old cartridges. 

Clayton State University RideShare. Clayton State's University RideShare Program began in October 2001 and encourages all employees and students to register with 1-87-Ridefind to find potential carpool partners. This program also provides information about transit and works with Parking/Communications to encourage less traffic on campus. This program is part of the Department of Public Safety and works closely with the Clean Air Campaign and the Atlanta Regional Commission, 1-87-RIDEFIND. We are currently collecting good used bikes to be painted and used on campus by employees and students.

Chick-fil-A Dwarf House of Forest Park. Truett Cathy opened the Dwarf Grill in Hapeville in 1946, later named the Dwarf House. Chick-fil-A Dwarf Houses: These full-service restaurants offer an extensive menu, and provide customers a choice of table service, walk-up counter service, or a drive-thru window. Eleven Chick-fil-A Dwarf House restaurants currently operate in metro Atlanta. They will bring the spinner and give away coupons.

. The DARE Vehicle will be displayed.

Clayton Co. Water Authority-Newman Wetlands Center. The Clayton County Water Authority is dedicated to natural resource conservation and strong environmental stewardship, and has implemented many excellent and innovative methods of providing water and wastewater services to our County. In addition, 3 reservoirs are open to the public for recreational fishing and picnicking; and 2 large community buildings may be rented for special events. Through the CCWA Newman Wetlands Center, we provide environmental education programs to children and adults throughout the year. This facility has a large interpretive building and museum, and a beautiful wetlands and wildlife refuge with trail and boardwalk, both of which are open to the public free of charge.

Earth Share of Georgia. Earth Share of Georgia offers citizens one smart and simple way to care for our air, land and water. As Georgia's only dedicated environmental fund, Earth Share partners with Georgia businesses and employees to support 62 leading environmental groups through workplace campaigns, Earth Day and other activities. Earth Share will be collecting used cell phones, PDAs, and pagers during the Fair.

Environmental Protection Agency-Wetlands.  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was established in 1970 by the White House and Congress in response to the growing public demand for cleaner, water, air and land. The mission of EPA is to protect human health and the environment. EPA works to develop and enforce regulations that implement environmental laws enacted by Congress. EPA is responsible researching and setting national standards for a variety of environmental programs and delegates to states and tribes the responsibility for issuing permits and for monitoring and enforcing compliance. The Wetlands Outreach Team will be this year's representative from EPA's Water Management Division.  EPA's Wetland Outreach Team will provide an exhibit displaying what a wetland is, the value and functions of a wetland and the ecological benefit wetlands bring to people and the environmental.

EV Club of the South. The EV Club of the South is chartered to help promote the awareness and uses of Electric Transportation of all kinds. We believe the World's limited resources, including petroleum products, are better used for purposes other than personal transportation. Since electricity can be produced using clean renewable resources such as Solar and Wind Power, Electric Vehicles are one solution to our overdependence on foreign oil as well as cleaner air for all of us to enjoy. They will bring some electric vehicles.

Georgia Conservancy. The Georgia Conservancy is a statewide environmental organization.  Our job is to make sure that Georgians have healthy air, clean water, unspoiled wild places and community green space now and in the future.

Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Office of Environmental Management. The Office takes DCA’s mission of bringing resources to the table so local governments can make informed decisions about their destinies, and apply it to issues of sound environmental management. The Office has a range of programs to assist local governments and Georgians conserve and improve our state’s natural beauty and resources. We approve local government's 10-year solid waste management plans, house Keep Georgia Beautiful and its network of 70 local affiliates, and help governments and individual citizens with waste reduction and water quality improvement efforts. They will have some portable recycling containers at Earth Day to collect paper, aluminum cans and #1 PET plastic bottles (cokes, waters).

Georgia Forestry Commission. The mission of the Georgia Forestry Commission is to provide leadership, service, and education in protection, management, and wise use of Georgia's forest resources. The Sustainable Community Forestry Program is a new program under GFC that helps communities recognize the value of their community forest resources.

Georgia Power Company. Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company. The company is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility, serving 2 million customers in Georgia. Georgia Power's rates are 15% below the national average. In 2004, company volunteers removed 281,000 pounds of trash from Georgia Rivers and avoided 15 million tons of air emissions through the Rideshare program.

Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA). GRTA (pronounced gret-a) is the state of Georgia authority that works to improve the state of Georgia's mobility, air quality, and land use practices. More specifically, GRTA works with those counties in Georgia that have been designated nonattainment under the federal Clean Air Act standards. Chief among GRTA's roles and principles are the commitment to operate as an open, accountable, efficient and effective public agency, that the authority will base decisions on fact-based analysis that provides the greatest public benefit for the resources invested, and that GRTA will advocate and implement a transportation system that is multi-modal, seamless and accessible to all. They will bring one 15 passenger van for display.

Good Shepherd Clinic. The Good Shepherd Clinic, located in Morrow, Georgia, is a free medical clinic that provides services to residents of Clayton County that have no health insurance. The clinic is supported by the gifts and talents of this community. The Clinic opened it doors in September of 2000 and since that time has treated 2000 residents. We see patients on Monday nights from 4:30pm-8:30pm, and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am-12:30pm. The clinic operates with volunteer staff and is always looking for more volunteers, both medical and non-medical.

Hands On Atlanta. Hands On Atlanta is a nonprofit organization founded in 1989 by 12 friends. The mission of Hands On Atlanta is to provide and meet critical need through volunteer service and civic engagement. Hands On Atlanta has grown from 12 volunteers to 30,000 + partnering with 400 agencies and schools on a daily basis. All volunteer opportunities including leadership training is free. Hands On Atlanta sponsors the largest day of community service in the nation annually on the first Saturday in October with 16,000 + volunteers through Metro Atlanta.  For more information or to become a volunteer, contact Genora Crooke 404-979-2820 .  If you have a group of 12 or more we can come to you. HATMA (Hartsfield Area TMA). Providing Commute Solutions to Companies, Employees, and Communities in the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Area. Assists in forming carpools and vanpools -Offers discounted transit passes -Participates in corporate and community transportation advocacy.

LifeLink of Georgia. LifeLink of Georgia is an independent, non-profit community service organization dedicated to the recovery and transplantation of organs and tissues.

Nurse Managed Clinic at Clayton State University.  Students can receive unlimited office visits with one of our health professionals and can receive immediate medical attention for non life threatening illness or injuries. Appointments are required but "walk-in" visits are available for acute illness. Open Monday-Thursday 9:00am-6:00pm and from 9:00am-12:00pm on Friday. We will offer free blood pressure and cholesterol screenings for a cost of $5, to the public and free information and pamphlets on blood screening and cholesterol.

Reynolds Nature Preserve. Reynolds Nature Preserve, located in Morrow, is a 146 acre woodland habitat that works to protect the air, soil and water through environmental education. With 4.5 miles of trails and 5 ponds, it is ideal for hiking, jogging & quiet contemplation.

Right from the Start Medicaid Project. Right from the start Medicaid :Our goal is to reach Georgia residents in non traditional settings. We provide information/take applications for: Medicaid, Peachcare for kids, Georgia Partnership for caring, and women's health Medicaid (breast and cervical CA). We also refer to other care agencies in the community as needed.

SmartBodies Fitness & Wellness Center (11 am - 1 pm). Clayton State's SmartBodies will be available to provide basic health, fitness and nutrition information from 11 am - 1 pm.

Southern Crescent Sexual Assault Center. The Southern Crescent Sexual Assault Center has been providing services to victims of sexual assault, their loved ones, and the citizens of Clayton, Fayette, and Henry counties since 1994. It is our mission to reduce the threat of sexual violence on a local, state, and national level through prevention, intervention, and education.

The Clean Air Campaign. The Clean Air Campaign is a not for profit organization that encourages Georgians to become proactive in reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality. We work with companies in the 20 metro non-attainment counties to increase awareness and customize commute programs for those companies.

The HUB The HUB is the frontline technical support center for Clayton State University. We provide support for student, faculty, and staff technical problems, as well as provide support for students needing help with school related applications. We strive to make sure technology enhances the learning process at Clayton State University.

The Sierra Club.
The Sierra Club is the oldest, largest and most influential environmental organization in the country. Members are more than 700,000 of your friends and neighbors. Inspired by nature, we work together to protect our communities and the planet.

Vegetarian Society of Georgia. The Vegetarian Society of Georgia is an all-volunteer educational, outreach and social organization dedicated to promoting healthy, humane and environmentally conscious lifestyles. A resource for vegetarians and nonvegetarians alike.

Volunteer Services at Clayton State University.
The Volunteer Services Resource Office is designed to serve as a Resource Center for Clayton State students. Our main objective is to get Clayton State Students out of the classroom and into the community to apply what they are learning. We refer students to specific agencies and organizations, based on individual interests, and we also help coordinate campus-wide cooperative projects, ex. Tsunami Relief Drive.
